Abstract
Objectives.Psychological empowerment has important positive impacts on various performance indicators. This study investigated how meaningfulness, self-determination, impact, and competency which are sub-factors of psychological empowerment of dental hygienists in the Seoul influence job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention.
Methods. The relative impacts of the sub-factors were examined by using one-way MANOVA and hierarchical regression analysis.
Results.Significant differences were evident in the degree of job satisfaction and organizational commitment related to the level of meaningfulness and self-determination/impact. Meaningfulness was more influential than self-determination/impact on job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Meaningfulness negatively impacted only turnover intention.
Conclusions.Improving psychological empowerment of dental hygienists is important and necessary, and deserves further study.
